A Typical Day on the Farm

No two days at Taking Root Farms are exactly alike, but every day is filled with opportunities to learn, work, and grow together. Participants begin the day by checking in, greeting friends, and reviewing the day’s activities. From there, they may help care for animals, tend gardens, plant or harvest crops, complete seasonal farm projects, or assist with general farm maintenance. Throughout the day, participants build practical job skills, practice teamwork, and gain confidence through meaningful, hands-on work. Depending on the season, participants may also enjoy nature walks, crafts, educational lessons, games, or special community visitors and events.

Meaningful Work & A Sense of Belonging

At Taking Root Farms, every activity is designed to encourage independence, foster friendships, and celebrate each person’s unique abilities. Whether caring for the farm, learning a new skill, or simply sharing a laugh with friends, each day offers new opportunities to grow and thrive.

What We’re
Building

Taking Root Farms is designed as a year-round, full-day program: Five days a week. A rural environment that supports outdoor work and recreation for 18+ high school graduates.

For Families & Caregivers

We understand the challenges families and individuals with I/DD face. Our goal is to create a program that supports the whole circle of care—participants, families, and caregivers.
